Gianduia - Hazelnut and chocolate

with the Nocciola Tonda Gentile delle Langhe and chocolate from Venezuela
The smart Piedmontese “chocolatiers” invented this flavour in 1806 when Napoleon forbade the importation of products from the British colonies and, as a matter of fact, it was difficult to find cocoa from South America. Nevertheless, the “chocolatiers” did not surrender and substituted a part of the cocoa with hazelnuts and created this flavour. Nowadays we still appreciate and savour this shrewd guess. Bellamia Gianduia recalls the old recipes of the IXth century: the precious hazelnut Tonda Gentile delle Langhe and the best Venezuelan quality of chocolate.
